The SAGE Classroom was designed by Architecture and Engineering faculty and students at Portland State University as a vehicle for exploring how they, as future professionals, could use their talents in service of public good. The project team is led by CPID Director Sergio Palleroni and CPID Fellow Margarette Leite who organized a multi-partner entity partnership between many governmental, nonprofit and for-profit organizations. See list of partners below.
The SAGE Classroom has been brought to fruition by our distribution partner, Pacific Mobile Structures, and our manufacturing partner, Blazer Industries.
These partnerships produced a highly affordable, healthy and green classroom for a market increasingly relying on manufactured classrooms. The project was also designated an official ‘Oregon Solution’ in 2011 by the Governor of Oregon. The SAGE Classroom was one of two buildings showcased at full scale at the 2012 world Greenbuild conference (San Francisco, CA). Since then, the SAGE classroom has been recognized for its impact on student health and environmental innovation with an international SEED Award and multiple modular building industry awards over the years.
Since its introduction, approximately 300 SAGE classrooms have been built in schools all over the Pacific Northwest, with more recent expansion into the Eastern, Midwest, and Southern states. In addition, several multi-classroom complexes have been built and designs for complete SAGE school campuses have been developed.
